Temporary protection under the Act of 13 June 2003 on granting protection to foreigners in the territory of the Republic of Poland (Journal of Laws of 2003, No. 128, item 1176) may be used in the territory of Poland by persons who do not have Ukrainian citizenship and arrived from Ukraine in the period from February 24, 2022 and are:

persons without citizenship who lived in Ukraine,
-
persons who have benefited from international protection or equivalent national protection in Ukraine,
-
persons who stayed in Ukraine on the basis of a permanent residence permit and are unable to safely return to their country or region of origin.
After arriving in Poland, these people must visit the Office for Foreigners in Warsaw (ul. Taborowa 33, 02-699 Warsaw) and submit an application for a certificate of temporary protection in Poland. The application can also be submitted by post, e-mail and the ePUAP platform.
During its validity period, the certificate, together with a valid travel document, entitles persons benefiting from temporary protection to legally stay in Poland, cross the external borders of the EU and internal borders of Schengen countries and stay in the territory of other Schengen countries for a period of up to 90 days in the last 180 days.
The temporary protection mechanism launched by an implementing decision of the EU Council in March 2022, initially for one year, was extended again for another year until March 4, 2025. Therefore, the validity period of the certificates of temporary protection issued so far is also extended in a similar manner.
Persons who received a certificate of temporary protection from the Office for Foreigners with an expiry date of March 4, 2023, September 4, 2023 or March 4, 2024 do not have to apply for new documents. These certificates will remain valid until March 4, 2025.
